Life at ECU
Our 20 residents living at William A. George Extended Care Facility enjoy a full-spectrum of services. Residents receive coordinated care by a multi-disciplinary team that includes physicians, a nurse practitioner, Wiichi’iwewin workers, a dietician, physiotherapists, an occupational therapist, a speech/language pathologist, daily nursing and activation staff.
Activation staff provide ongoing, planned physical, social and recreational activities (e.g., exercise, music programs, crafts, games). These activities enhance our residents’ sense of well-being and promote or enhance physical, cognitive, and emotional health. These include, but are not limited to, activities that promote self-esteem, pleasure, comfort, education, creativity, success, and independence.
Volunteers complete the experience including but not limited to pastoral care services, visitation, singing and gardening. We believe in resident and family centred care with a restorative approach that focuses on dignity and respect.
Update: May 2020
We encourage family members to stay connected to residents here at ECU. During COVID-19, we have implemented exciting and safe initiatives to keep families connected.
We offer outside one-on-one visits for family members to connect with a loved one. These visits are held outside, practicing full physical distancing measures with supervision from a SLMHC employee. At this time, these visits are for only once a week, with one individual at a time. To schedule a one-on-one visit, please call us at (807) 737-3030 ext. 4575.
We also offer video visits using iPads and technology similar to Zoom/Skype. You can arrange a video visit with your loved one by calling us at (807) 737-3030 ext. 4575. Please understand these visits need to be scheduled ahead of time to ensure resident availability and access to technology.
We have scheduled meal-times every day. We appreciate that knowing these meal times allows our family members to better schedule visits.
