What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a very contagious disease. It spreads quickly from one person to another through contact and droplets. In March 2020, a state of emergency was declared in Ontario. We have done our very best to keep your loved ones and those caring for them protected and safe which unfortunately meant closing to visitors. This has been a challenging and stressful time for everyone.

It is important to consider the safest way to begin visits again. Please know we all have a role to play in responding to the pandemic and each of our actions has an impact on many other people.

What to Expect Regarding your Visit

  • All visits must be scheduled in advance. Contact us to schedule your indoor or outdoor visit. Visits will be 60 minutes in length. Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled visit. You will be swabbed prior to entry.
  • Effective February 7, 2022, residents may have four (4) designated, essential visitors for indoor visits, however only two (2) are permitted to visit at the same time.
  • All visitors must be double vaccinated (proof of vaccination will be required before entering for visit).
  • Pets are allowed at this time.
  • You will be screened at your visit. This will involve taking your temperature and answering questions.
  • For outdoor visits, you will be asked to provide own mask.
  • We will supply indoor visitors with personal protective equipment. ECU-issued medical masks are required at all times.
  • Try to maintain a 2m (6 feet) physical distance from your loved one at all times.
  • You will be asked to use hand sanitizer. Please follow directions given on proper technique.
  • Staff, students and all visitors will be swabbed twice every week.

Your Responsibility as a Visitor

  • Respect all guidelines that have been put in place. Please ask if you do not understand them.
  • Please review the section “what to expect regarding your visit” and if you have any questions, please let us know when scheduling your visit.
  • Answer the screening questions honestly.
  • Keep your mask on at all times while in the building and/or when interacting with anyone at ECU
  • Your visit is limited to your loved one, no other residents.
  • Try to maintain a 2m (6 feet) physical distance from your loved one at all times.
  • Be considerate and respectful when interacting with individuals as this is a very stressful time for everyone.

Things to Remember

  • Check with our Team Lead regarding what gifts or items you can bring, if any. Flowers and Plants are NOT permitted at this time.
  • Minimize jewelry, accessories e.g. purses (you may want to leave items like this in the car). The fewer items you bring, the lower the risk of virus transfer.
  • You may be required to wipe down all personal items you do bring with a disinfectant ( ie. cell phone, keys)
  • Avoid touching your mask, face, eyes or ears, or adjusting your glasses during your visit.
  • Ensure long hair is tied back.
