Diagnostic Imaging

Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre offers full diagnostic services. In-patient, emergency and out-patient services include:

  • General Radiography – X-ray procedures for various bone and soft tissue structures in the body
  • Mobile Radiography – Emergency or operating room procedures when the patient is not mobile
  • Fluoroscopy Procedures – Dynamic x-ray evaluation of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract
  • Ultrasound – Use of high-frequency sound waves for assessment of joints and various soft tissue structures in the abdomen, brain, heart, neck, shoulder, and blood vessels
  • Mammography / Breast Imaging / Breast Biopsies – Digital mammography which aids in the early detection of breast cancer
  • CT Scanner – A 64-slice CT Scanner provides precise images and 3D imaging of structures allowing for better diagnosis and treatment.
  • Echocardiography Services – We offer Ultrasound assessment of Cardiac function and diseases as a routine and emergency checkup of our inpatient and outpatient clients. Our Echocardiography lab provides adult echocardiography services that are accredited by Accreditation Canada.

Our CT Scanner provides more complex images and fills a serious need in the north. It saves time and travel for patients, increasing the speed of diagnosis and, ultimately, treatment.

The digital mammography unit and the recently awarded accreditation from the Canadian Association of Radiologists, has given us the opportunity to expand our breast screening and diagnostic mammography services.

Our diagnostic imaging equipment has been computerized and is linked with a regional picture archiving and communications system (PACS). This is leading edge technology whereby images can be sent or retrieved from across Northwestern Ontario and beyond within minutes.

X-ray services are offered in 17 First Nation communities. These are affiliated with the Basic Radiography Workers program, which allows graduates to provide basic x-ray services in the community health centres, which are then interpreted at our hospital in Sioux Lookout.

Our staffing consists of eight X-Ray Technologists, four Ultrasound Technologists, and two clerks. We have remote reading provided by a team of radiologists headed by Dr. Neety Panu.

Echocardiogram readings are done remotely by six fulltime reading physicians, including Dr. Masoud Sadderdeni and Dr. Neety Panu.
