SLMHC receives Microscope for ENT Specialty Clinic

A Zeiss operating microscope was graciously donated to SLMHC’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialty Clinic by the Hospital for Sick Children, located in Toronto.

The microscope, a Zeiss operating microscope with electronic zoom and focus, can be used for in-office ear procedures and other examinations.

The state of the art instrument comes in conjunction with the visit of Dr. Paolo Campisi, an ENT specialist, who visits SLMHC every six months.

On his visits, he sees children and adults and conducts surgery and clinics. Dr. Campisi was accompanied by two fellows, Dr. Samantha Goh from the UK, and Dr. Alex Treble from Australia.

“This microscope will improve patient care. The ability to provide the service offered by Dr. Campisi has made a huge impact on our patients,” says Dean Osmond, SLMHC President and CEO. “Getting paediatric ENT services closer to home has decreased wait times and cost of travelling to a major center.”

Beyond his specialization, Dr. Campisi is a Professor within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, University of Toronto practicing at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.

He has a clinical interest in disorders of the airway and voice and is the Director of the Centre for Paediatric Voice and Laryngeal Function, a subspecialty clinic designed for the care of children with voice disorders. His research interests are focused on the epidemiology and management of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis in children.

SLMHC is grateful to Dr. Campisi, his team and the Hospital for Sick Children, for this gracious donation, and for giving of their service and time.
