Prenatal and Maternity

Our Services During COVID-19

The Integrated Pregnancy Program (IPP) continues to operate while following safe guidelines and the best care for expectant parents. Patients coming into IPP are allowed one essential care partner, and as with all patients/visitors/staff at SLMHC, everyone must wear a hospital-issued medical mask and practice good hand hygiene.

Effective January 5, 2022, visitors, essential care partners and escorts are required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination before entering the hospital. Some exceptions may apply (families of end-of-life patients and essential care partners for pediatric patients).

If coming to the hospital for outpatient appointments, including IPP or other services, please report to the registration area in the ambulatory care/canoe hallway after passing through required screening at our automated wellness screening stations in the Main Entrance or Ambulatory Care Entrance.

The Main Entrance and Ambulatory Care Entrance are open for all outpatients and their essential care partners for weekday appointments and services.

The Emergency Entrance is open 24/7 for those coming into the Emergency Department or visiting inpatients.

We have created a FAQ section with some common questions about COVID-19 and pregnancy, and our services in IPP and Maternity here at SLMHC.

If you have any additional questions, please speak to your healthcare provider or call our switchboard at (807) 737-3030.

Please visit our COVID-19 page to check on the most current information about visitor/essential care partner restrictions and other updates relating to COVID-19 here at SLMHC:

Obstetrical Unit

Having a baby?  It can be an exciting and anxious time! Here at SLMHC we have a labour and delivery unit (obstetrical unit) staffed by a team of registered nurse and physicians. Our maternity floor consists of three state-of-the-art labour and delivery rooms, and five post-partum beds.

Integrated Pregnancy Program

We offer pre and post natal services through our Integrated Pregnancy Program (IPP).  This program also addresses addictions issues, using tapering programs for both parents.  A breastfeeding clinic is also part of the IPP portfolio.

The IPP provides service on an outpatient basis and works closely with our inpatient obstetrical unit.

Here at SLMHC, we participate in the Baby-Friendly Initiative, which protects, promotes and supports positive breastfeeding practices.

To reach the IPP, please call (807) 737-3030 ext. 4502 or 4503.
