COVID-19 Outbreak Declared at SLMHC

Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) has identified cases of hospital-acquired COVID-19.

A COVID-19 outbreak is defined in Ontario as: Two or more laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases (patients and/or staff) within a specified area (unit/floor/service) within a 7-day period where both cases could have reasonably acquired their infection in the hospital. All patients have been in-patients for a long period of time, which tells us that they contracted COVID-19 while at the hospital.

This means that, effective immediately, SLMHC will limit visitors to a maximum of two (2) per patient. Exceptions can be made for palliative care patients. All visitors will be required to wear a surgical mask while on the nursing floor.

SLMHC is urging visitors to refrain from visiting patients if you are feeling unwell and experiencing symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, cough, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Please do not visit until you have fully recovered.

If you are in need of medical care, for the previously listed symptoms or for other health care needs, SLMHC’s Emergency Department is open 24/7.
