Update – Gastro Outbreak Restriction Lifted at SLMHC

Sioux Lookout, Ontario

A Gastroenteritis (gastro) outbreak was declared at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre on October 18, 2019. As of today, October 30, 2019, this outbreak has been lifted. In an effort to minimize the potential spread of gastroenteritis, SLMHC had placed precautions in place and we are happy to report we have returned to regular operations.

All elective admissions, non-urgent transfers, patient visitation and social activities at the health centre have returned to normal. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this time, and apologize for any inconvenience.

We want to take this opportunity to remind the public that although the outbreak is lifted, hand washing is important to remember at all times. Gastro still may be present in the community, so those who are sick or symptomatic should still exercise caution when interacting with others. Please reconsider patient visitation and reschedule non-urgent appointments at SLMHC if you are potentially contagious, so as to reduce the opportunity for a future outbreak.

Additionally, flu season is starting. Let’s work together to keep SLMHC a safe and healthy environment. Please wash your hands or use one of the hand-sanitizing stations located throughout the SLMHC facility.
