Governor General Visits SLMHC

SLMHC was visited by the Governor General of Canada for a round table meeting with local First Nation leaders and health professionals to discuss health care and mental health issues. Their Excellencies, David and Sharon Johnston, also received a tour of the SLMHC facilities and were treated to a Miichim (traditional food) lunch.

“What a delight for Sharon, myself, and our colleagues, to be here in Sioux Lookout, learning by the second. I was installed in this position a little over five years ago … the title of my installation address was A Smart and Caring Nation,” His Excellency stated.

“What has struck us so much in preparation for this visit and in this visit itself is how well Sioux Lookout and the areas it services in Northwestern Ontario exemplify the idea of caring about people and doing it in intelligent ways.”
