Celebrating Careers: After 31 years at SLMHC, Sue Anderson is officially saying farewell

After 31 years at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC), Sue Anderson is officially saying farewell.
Sue’s journey in Sioux Lookout began at the Zone Hospital as a Med Surge Nurse. She worked for the Zone Hospital on 7th Avenue until amalgamation with the General Hospital in 2002, when Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health centre (SLMHC) was first incorporated, and then became an SLMHC employee. She served in many departments as a frontline nurse before transitioning into management where she has served in a variety of positions. Sue has been an inspiration and guide to many, including her peers, and pioneered some significant initiatives at SLMHC. Those initiatives include the Best Practice Spotlight Organizations (BPSO) Designation at both the William A. George Extended Care Facility (ECU) and SLMHC, and the Baby-Friendly Initiative Designation at SLMHC.
“I’ll miss my team; I’m a very social person and love making connections with people, and so I’ve been blessed in 31 years to have made real friendships with people here, and I will miss seeing those faces on a daily basis,” she says. “I’m also going to miss the patients, I mean that’s why I went into healthcare was to provide patient care, so in September I do plan on returning as a casual nurse to still get some of that frontline patient care in my life,” she continues.
SLMHC would like to congratulate Sue Anderson in her retirement and as she transitions into a casual nursing role. We are thankful for Sue’s leadership, commitment, and 31 years of devoted service at SLMHC.
“I want to congratulate Sue on her retirement. She’s had a tremendous career. Sue began her career in leadership as the charge nurse in the operating room, and ended her career in leadership as a director of patient care,” says Dean Osmond, SLMHC President and CEO. Osmond continues, “Sue has a lot of accomplishments throughout her years of service, BPSO for the long-term care and obstetrics and mentoring new managers, just to name a few. We wish Sue all the best in her retirement, and we will miss her greatly.”
Sue says she’s looking forward to soaking up time with family while enjoying the summer.
“I really am looking forward to having the summer off and just enjoying my space. My husband and I have created a beautiful life and so I just want to be able to sit back and enjoy that.”
