Highlighting our Team: Mental Health and Addictions Program

Ray Legros, Addictions Counsellor and Case Manager, works in Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre’s (SLMHC) Mental Health and Addictions Program (MHAP).

Ray works with a talented, multidisciplinary team in MHAP, where they respond and meet the needs of those affected by mental health and addiction issues.

“I know I’m an Addictions Counsellor, but I do a lot of mental health work. We work with trauma, anxiety, depression, and grief. In some cases, those are the triggers for the addictions… It’s all about working with the clients,” he says.

Ray has been with SLMHC for over 11 years. He says the support he receives from his team allows him to excel, leading to rewarding progress with his clients.

“The fun part for me is working with my clients and seeing the progress they make. That’s the rewarding part of my job, but I couldn’t have done it without my team. Coming to work every morning, I know I have my team behind me, I have my manager behind me, and I can do my job.”

MHAP includes the Assault Care and Treatment Program, Long-Term Counselling services, and Crisis Counselling services. MHAP services are free, they’re confidential, and they are offered on a voluntary basis.
