First COVID-19 Vaccine given at ECU

The first resident to receive the Health Canada approved COVID-19 Moderna vaccine at William A. George Extended Care Facility (ECU) was Eunice Fiddler. In addition to administering vaccines to residents and staff of the ECU, hospital chronic care patients and all hospital staff will receive the vaccine in the days ahead.   SLMHC and our partners in health will share more information about the vaccination schedule and roll out of the vaccine in our region as it becomes available.   Pictured: RPN Team Lead Andrea McWatters, Margaret Beardy (Eunice’s daughter), Eunice Fiddler (85), and SLMHC Interpreter Tom Chapman.

It was a historical moment today for Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) as we administered the first Health Canada approved COVID-19 Moderna vaccine at the William A. George Extended Care Facility (ECU).  The first resident to receive the vaccine was Eunice Fiddler, 85. Joining her was her daughter, Margaret Beardy, SLMHC Interpreter Tom Chapman, and Andrea McWatters, RPN Team Lead, who administered the vaccine.

Earlier this week, the first COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Sioux Lookout in anticipation of the roll out of Ontario’s vaccination implementation plan for our region.

The province is rolling out the vaccine in three phases, with a focus on the most vulnerable populations first. In addition to administering vaccines to residents and staff of the ECU, hospital chronic care patients and all hospital staff will receive the vaccine in the days ahead.   SLMHC has and will continue to play an important role in the coming months, as vaccinations will continue to be administered.

SLMHC, and our partners in health, will share more information about the roll out of the vaccine in our region as it becomes available.
