After 30 years at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Centre (SLMHC), Rob Martin is officially saying farewell.

Rob has been a valuable member of the organization dating back to 1995, when he started as a nurse at the former Sioux Lookout Zone Hospital.

He recalls being part of the care journey for many, where he enjoyed helping patients and trying to make a positive impact.

“If there’s somebody that’s sick, you’re putting a lot of effort into hopefully making that person better, their outcome better,” Martin says.

After years of working as a nurse, Rob transitioned to his current role of Clinical Nurse Educator, where he has brought a wealth of knowledge, steadiness and experience. He says he will miss the opportunity to positively impact the careers of the people he comes in contact with, especially the younger generations.

“Recently, with this position, I’m doing a lot of orientation and education with new (nursing) staff. So, I’m going to miss just doing that, seeing them for the first time, impressing on them that the hospital is a great place to work. You know, some of them are brand new grads; this is their first job. So, trying to give them a good head start with that,” he says.

SLMHC would like to congratulate Rob Martin on his retirement. We are thankful for his mentorship, commitment, and 30 years of devoted service and contributions to our team.

“I would like to thank Rob for his many years of service to the organization. He worked for many years in the Emergency Department, where his skills and knowledge were utilized on patient care. His role as Clinical Nurse Educator has allowed him to pass on his knowledge and expertise to our younger generations of nurses,” says Dean Osmond, SLMHC President and CEO. “Rob was a great asset to SLMHC, and his skills and experience will be greatly missed within our organization. I wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

In his retirement, Rob is looking forward to the extra time he will now have to work on projects at home.

“Just having more time to do projects at home. Right now, it’s only two days a week; you’re working on the projects on the weekend. Now, I’ll have seven days, seven days to actually do projects. So, more timeline to do that kind of stuff,” he concludes.
