Celebrating Careers: Brad Caughell says goodbye after 20 Years at SLMHC

After 20 years at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC), Brad Caughell is officially saying farewell.

Brad, who began as a Trainer Educator at SLMHC, recalls the career advancements that were allotted to him as his favourite part of working here. By the time he came to SLMHC, he had 12 years of experience, but without a Bachelor of Science degree, he was limited in upward mobility in his career prior to SLMHC. He moved on to become a Senior Tech responsible for two departments, then a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee where he was awarded Level two certification. That certification was leveraged to become a Biosecurity Officer and Lab Safety Officer.

Brad wore many hats while working at SLMHC and met quite a few people along the way.

“I’ll miss the people. I’ve been here for 20 and a half years. There’s a lot of people that I’ve known right from day one that are still here. A lot of my colleagues in the lab I’m going to miss because a lot of the junior members I personally helped train and everything, so it’s bitter-sweet. But, you know, it’s time,” Caughell says.

In his retirement, Brad is most looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren.

“I’m looking forward to spending my precious time with my grandchildren. My granddaughter is three now, and my grandson just turned two in August. And that’s basically what I’m going to do. I’m just going to spoil them rotten and then just leave them to their own devices, to their parents,” Caughell says.

SLMHC would like to thank Brad for his devoted service and contributions to our team. We wish him all the best in his retirement.
