Rural Practice Program opening doors for healthcare professionals looking to explore northern, rural communities

Interested in moving to Sioux Lookout? The Rural Practice Program, offered by the Michener Institute of Education, is a free course designed to help healthcare professionals with the unique challenges and opportunities of practicing in Ontario’s rural and Northern healthcare settings. The Michener Institute of Education describes the experience, “Participants will gain practical skills, foster adaptability, and develop strategies to manage professional and personal challenges while enhancing community health outcomes.”

Professional groups that would benefit from this program and some of our key community health programs in relation to this program include:

  • Nursing
  • Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Community Health (Prenatal Program, RAAM Clinic, Day Medicine, Assault Care Treatment)
  • Diabetes & Foot Care (Sioux Lookout Diabetes Program / SLDP)
  • Diagnostics

The cost of travel and accommodation will be covered through the Rural Practice Preparation Program for a one to two-day visit for interested program participants.
