Bimaadiziwin
Our Bimaadiziwin program is grounded in respect, diversity, cultural safety, and inclusion. It promotes awareness, understanding, acceptance, and empowerment within individual cultural contexts while supporting personal and organizational growth aligned with SLMHC’s Meno Ya Win values.
The program supports the ongoing development of cultural understanding, humility, and inclusive practices for working within cross-cultural healthcare environments.
Through Bimaadiziwin, SLMHC employees receive training that supports culturally safe, equitable, and inclusive care. This includes Anishinaabe Cultural Training and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Training.
Anishinaabe Cultural Training
This two-day training program provides participants with opportunities to explore Anishinaabe history, culture, teachings, and perspectives, including the unique experiences and challenges faced by First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario.
This is available in-person and digitally.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Training
The EDI Training program supports staff in developing awareness and understanding of equity, diversity inclusion, and culturally safe practices within healthcare environments. The training explores systemic barriers, bias, and inequities that may impact patient, client, resident and staff experiences.
Participants are introduced to practical strategies that support respectful engagement, inclusive workplaces, and equitable delivery.
Bimaadiziwin is also available to the public. Organizations and members of the public are welcome to sign up for both the Culturally Safe Training and Anishinaabe Cultural Training.
Anishinaabe Cultural Training is $200 per person (lunch provided both days).
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Training is $100 per person.
