MRI machine delivery brings SLMHC steps closer to offering MRI services
Partnering with GE Healthcare and SDI Canada, Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) and the SLMHC Foundation saw the successful delivery of its new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine on March 24.
The MRI machine was lifted by crane, through a wall panel opening, directly into the MRI suite. GE Healthcare was on-site to oversee the delivery and preparation for the MRI installation process.
Once operational, the MRI will allow SLMHC to provide faster and more accurate diagnosis to improve patient outcomes.
“With the MRI now delivered into the modular suite, the final phases of construction and installation will begin. Contractors will begin completion of all required service connections, including completion of the interior spaces, while GE Healthcare will jointly begin installation and setup of the MRI. This will include extensive testing and validation through the entire process,” says Michelle Beaulne, Director of Corporate Services. “Once this stage has been completed, the training and application processes will begin prior to the go-live expected to be in the Fall. This is a busy and exciting time, bringing our community one step closer to offering MRI services right here at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre.”
“We are pleased to announce that the GE Healthcare SIGNA™ Voyager 1.5T MRI will soon be available at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre. This advanced system, featuring AIR™ Coils that are designed to provide superior patient comfort through its lightweight and flexible design, ensures easier positioning and faster scan times,” says Arianna Kitching, Manager of Diagnostic Imaging at SLMHC.

GE Healthcare describes the machine, “SIGNA™ Voyager gives technologists and radiologists quick, patient-friendly exams with consistent, optimal image quality… New and innovative image reconstruction software increases SNR (signal-to-noise ratio), reduces background noise and artifacts, and sharpens images, leading to significantly reduced scan times.”
Once operational in the fall, SLMHC will receive base funding from Ontario Health North West to support the operating hours of the MRI.
