Volunteer at SLMHC

Volunteers are special people that give of themselves to help others.

Volunteering is both satisfying and rewarding. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, use your special skills or learn new ones, and to bring comfort to others. Our volunteers are dedicated individuals of all ages, engaged in meaningful activities which reflect their talents and abilities and help make a difference in others’ lives.

At Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre, our volunteers

  • have a genuine interest in helping others
  • accept and follow hospital policies and procedures
  • look for new learning opportunities
  • are responsible, dependable and caring
  • are physically able to perform the tasks they commit to
  • have successfully completed a screening process and training

Our screening process consists of an interview and criminal reference check to ensure safety for our patients and residents.

There are Many Ways YOU Can Contribute to SLMHC and Your Community:

Direct Patient / Resident Care:  visiting; reading; writing letters; playing cards or other games; going for walks; music, pet or exercise therapy programs; pastoral or palliative care; baking; traditional or cultural foods program; book cart visiting.

Indirect Patient / Resident Care:  watering plants and gardening; feeding/cleaning fish tanks or bird cages; decorating; baking or making crafts for fundraising; knitting.

We will work with you to use your skills and talents in the most worthwhile way for you and for our patients and residents. Volunteers are needed every day of the week, at various times and locations. We look forward to having you join our dedicated group of volunteers.
