Celebrating Careers: Bob Gould officially retires after 5 years at SLMHC

After 5 years at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC), Bob Gould is officially saying goodbye.
Bob began working in the Facilities Services Team in May 11, 2020 and then quickly transitioned into the position of Facilities Manager shortly after on October 26, 2020. He has been instrumental in managing many large projects within the organization, most recently the completion of renovations for Triage and “safe spaces” in our Emergency Department as well as planning and design phases for the current MRI project that is underway.
Even with the multifaceted nature of his job, Bob ‘s favourite part of working at SLMHC is the people whom he has had the pleasure of working with.
“I think the teams from all departments. It’s what makes the job enjoyable, that you have everybody striving to give the patients the best service, best possible experience, meeting our whole scenario, what we believe in, in our settings, and that alone just makes the job enjoyable to see those accomplishments,” Gould says.
In addition to the people, there are a range of things that he will miss about working here.
“I think even from the morning huddles, the team, you know, I’ve been spoiled as a manager with Facilities. The human nature of our jobs, especially dealing with everything we do, because at the end of the day, we always remind our staff, we run a 24-hour, 365-day building. It’s a post-disaster building. We’re expected to be ready if anything hits,” Gould says.
“The groups of teams and my maintenance team has been amazing to keep doing that. So, I would say that whole concept. I’ve been in the service industry 45 years, and this is just another aspect of service, but a very important service. It’s been enjoyable working with such a good group,” he continues.
“Bob has brought a wealth of knowledge and skills to SLMHC, and he was able to seamlessly adapt to improve many internal processes including our automated internal Building Systems Monitoring and Managing systems to optimize our overall building performance ensuring safe and efficient spaces for all staff, patients and visitors. His hard work, professionalism, peer support and commitment to excellence is greatly appreciated and will be greatly missed,” says Michelle Beaulne, SLMHC Director of Corporate Services.
In his retirement, Bob is most looking forward to making more memories and enjoying time with his family.
“I am looking forward to more time with my grandchildren, spending time with my wife, hanging out at the cabin and doing a little bit of traveling,” Gould says.
SLMHC would like to thank Bob for his devoted service and contributions to our team. We wish him all the best in his retirement.
