Job Summary:
The Attending Nurse Practitioner (Attending NP) reports directly to the Patient Care Manager and is also accountable to the Medical Director for meeting Meno Ya Win Hospital policies, procedures, and protocols for medical services. The Attending NP works within the framework of nursing outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. The Attending NP collaborates with patients, families, and the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans; provides leadership and mentorship to enhance staff knowledge, assessment skills, and care delivery; and leads research, education, and evidence-based initiatives to improve patient and system outcomes.

Qualifications:
· Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (Primary Health Care or Adult) and entitled to practice required.
· Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred.
· Demonstrated commitment to the principles of patient centered care.
· Experience working with mental health and substance use is an asset.
· Effective patient and family counseling skills.
· Excellent inter‑professional/communication skills.
· Strong organizational, critical appraisal and analytical skills.
· Demonstrated critical problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
· Regular attendance at work is required.

Job Duties:
· Maintains confidentiality and acts in an ethical manner, consistent with professional expectations, and the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Hospital policies and code of conduct.
· Serves as a member of the primary care team, seeking consultation as needed.
· Pursues ongoing professional development to maintain clinical competence and stay updated on relevant legislation.
· Provide clinical leadership and guidance to Emergency Room staff and act as a team player and assist nurses as necessary.
· Maintains professional liability protection and CPR certification for healthcare professionals, including standard first aid.
· Provides comprehensive primary care to patients as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
· Enhances continuity of care through collaboration, consultation, and referrals as needed.
· Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, and external resources to develop and manage care plans for inpatients and outpatients.
· Supports and advises managers, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams in challenging clinical situations.
· Refers patients to specialized consultants, services, and other providers in consultation with the MRP and accepts referrals from team members.
· Conducts patient centered health assessments and comprehensive health histories for patients as needed.
· Engages patients in regular discussions about their care plans and participates in care conferences.
· Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests, assuming follow-up responsibility in consultation with the MRP.
· Diagnoses and manages acute and chronic health conditions, including pharmacological, complementary, counseling interventions, and procedures within the NP scope.
· Documents clinical data, assessments, diagnoses, care plans, interventions, patient responses, and clinical rationale accurately and promptly.
· Utilizes communication and counseling skills to engage patients in discussions about their health and quality of life.
· Provides patient-centered health education and collaborates with patients to create personalized care plans.
Salary:
The salary range for this position will be in line with the OHA compensation structure.
