Job Summary:
The Journeyperson works collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team to support the Facilities Department in maintaining the hospital’s buildings, systems, and grounds to ensure a safe and efficient environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Under the direction of the Facilities Services Manager, the Journeyperson develops, implements, and carries out complex trade-specific tasks, including the completion of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for hospital building systems and equipment. This position performs advanced repairs and installations, prioritizes and manages workloads independently, and ensures compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards while contributing to a safe, patient-centered environment and supporting overall hospital operations.

Qualifications:
• Grade 12 education.
• Valid Certificate of Qualification from Skilled Trades Ontario (or equivalent out-of-province certification) with preference being given to General Carpenter, Electrician or Millwright.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in one or more of the following: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or general building maintenance.
• Proven skills and experience related to the care and repair of building systems, including HVAC systems, boiler maintenance, preventive and general maintenance of equipment, buildings, and facility property.
• Must have working knowledge of TSSA regulations.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with computerized building automation systems and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of WHMIS, ESA, and OHSA standards.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
• Ability to work a rotational schedule including days, evenings, and weekends (10-hour shifts).
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting is an asset.
Job Duties:
• Perform specialized and complex maintenance and repair services across hospital facilities and grounds.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff within the department and management, as well as with other departments and external partners as required.
• Perform work in compliance with all local and provincial codes, bylaws, building code regulations, standards, policies, and procedures (e.g., TSSA, ESA, and OHSA) pertaining to boilers, HVAC systems, heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment within specified control ranges.
• Ensure quality and safety by adhering to building codes and safety regulations and inspect work to ensure it meets required specifications.
• Carry out preventive and general maintenance programs for building systems, equipment, and property.
• Complete installations, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs for systems such as HVAC, boilers, pumps, motors, and water treatment systems.
• Conduct routine testing and maintenance on safety and building systems (e.g., fire alarms, door locks, kitchen equipment, magnetic locks, and medical gas systems).
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications to determine work procedures.
• Maintain compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations (TSSA, ESA, OHSA).
• Maintain and manage work orders, materials, and inventory for assigned tasks.
• Support other maintenance team members and assist with scheduling, project assignments, and follow-up.
• Maintain accurate documentation for all maintenance work and inspections.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary:$33.97 - $36.44; with benefits in accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement, additional premium for evenings and weekend shifts.
