SLMHC's New Mission, Vision, and Values
SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON – November 16, 2016 was a very proud day for Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC). It is the day the organization proudly launched a fresh new Mission, Vision and Values.
During the presentation, speaking to a packed house, SLMHC’s former President and CEO David Murray said, “It’s truly a time of renewal and we are striking a new path forward with a new Mission, Vision, and Values. These have been formed through a lot of work with the communities, with physicians, with our staff, with other community partners, to come up with exactly where we hope to head in the next few years. Also, this has been emboldened by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations, which we are looking to, to help guide us in our path forward.
VP of Health Services and CNE Heather Lee spoke next, “To explain a little bit more… about how we got here today, in the spring of 2015 we held engagement sessions and surveys with patients and families, First Nations, local and regional leadership, care partners, staff, physicians and other community members to really define what was the future direction of the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre. We have gotten to this point; where do we go from here?” asked Lee.
She went on to say, “Our leadership team listened and we heard your voices. We want to thank each and every one of you for helping to shape this new direction that we are going to take. We know that health care and the needs of our population are continuously changing and as an organization, we must commit to being even more innovative, efficient and effective in our care delivery and our operational decision making, and including the patient and the caregivers and their families at the centre of those decisions.”
Six years ago, SLMHC opened a new state of the art facility to provide health care services to the roughly 25,000 residents that live in the service area. Over the six-year span, SLMHC’s original Mission, Vision and Values have served the organization well in guiding our leaders, front-line staff and physicians in providing health care. The time has come to change our Mission, Vision and Values to reflect our present reality and to take our organization above and beyond into the future.
