Registered Nurse (Psychiatry) MHAP 02/24
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Program (MHAP), Assault Care and Treatment Program (ACT), Sioux Lookout Diabetes Programs (SLDP/CCDC), the RN is responsible to coordinate, assess, plan, provide interventions and evaluate care, utilizing the current Standards of Practice (RN College of Nurses of Ontario), in accordance with the hospital goals and objectives, for assigned patients. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team attached to the Mental Health and Addictions Program, the RN will provide clinical input with
respect to mental health and medical issues for complex, high-need clients. Key responsibilities include supporting psychiatric care in the Mental Health and Addiction program and liaising with community and hospital physicians,
specialists, and other mental health providers that may participate in the multi-disciplinary process.
Qualifications:
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current Basic CPR certificate (BCLS) required.
• Specialty certification in Mental Health/Psychiatric nursing preferred.
• Significant experience in mental health and/or addictions.
• Minimum one-year experience preferred.
• ACLS/PALS/NALS course and/or status preferred.
• EKG/Dysrhythmia interpretation course/skill an asset.
• Good communication skills, non-judgmental manner, team player.
• Good assessment skills.
• Intravenous/venipuncture skills/certification.
• Problem solving skills.
• Crisis Intervention skills.
Job Duties:
• Provide triage and assessment for psychiatry patients including children and youth. Work directly with psychiatrist to develop and implement plans of care for psychiatry patients including children and youth and navigation of regional service options.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams.
• Must be willing to work the present 12-hour shift rotation.
• Regular and sustained attendance is essential for this position.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
• Ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment with unpredictable situations.
• Ability to self-reflect on practice and make adjustments based on both internal and external feedback.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams.
• Provide assistance to and relief for all areas as required.
• Provide culturally competent and respectful care in accordance with hospital policy.
• Other nursing duties.
• Must adhere to organizational policies and procedures concerning cleaning, hand hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment in support of Infection Control measures and attend training when necessary.
Salary: $39.07 – $56.00 in accordance with ONA Collective Agreement
